Organized in 1979, the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit that serves as an umbrella organization for the diverse roles in genealogy. The more than 2,000 US and international members include family historians, professional researchers, librarians, archivists, writers, editors, consultants, indexers, instructors, lecturers, columnists, booksellers, publishers, computer specialists, and geneticists.
The Lone Star Chapter is a regional subgroup of APG. Our members represent the broad spectrum of genealogical pursuits covered by the APG umbrella.
Membership in APG is open to any person or institution willing to support the objectives and the APG Code of Ethics. Membership in the Lone Star Chapter is open to any APG member. Our members are located primarily in Texas.
Additionally, the Lone Star Chapter supports networking opportunities among members and professional and educational growth.

Is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt educational organization incorporated under the laws of the State of Texas with close to 200 members. The BAGS conducts monthly meetings with programs that feature knowledgeable speakers and sponsors genealogical seminars on a variety of topics at all skill levels. BAGS publishes a monthly newsletter with item about the Society’s activities and interests. It also publishes a quarterly journal that contains many original articles of historical and genealogical significance and a yearbook listing all current members. The society also arranges field trips through the Harris County Commissioners Office for members and their guests to visit Clayton Library and other places of genealogical interest.

The Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) provides an educational forum for the discovery, critical evaluation, and use of genealogical sources and methodology through a week of intensive study led by nationally prominent genealogical educators. Students choose one course that lasts throughout the week. Topics range from a course for beginners to a variety of courses on specialized topics. IGHR is hosted by the Georgia Genealogical Society with courses taking place at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel on the University of Georgia Campus in historic Athens, Georgia.
