The December 2019 Stirpes focuses on “Maps in Genealogy: Capturing Your Ancestor in Time and Place.” Maps are a favorite tool for genealogists in locating their ancestors. We discuss the rich resources associated with maps and the lessons we can learn from them as we locate our ancestors in place and broaden our picture of their community. Our authors in this issue addressed many facets of using maps in genealogy research, including building a tree using farm leases and platting the family farm. Use Sanborn maps to build your ancestor’s community as it might have been during his or her lifetime. Use Google Earth to check out the land then and now. These and other uses of maps are brought to light in the December issue plus highlights of the 2019 TxSGS Family History Conference, awards presentations, and more.
