The President, with the approval of the Executive Committee, may appoint certain members to the Board of Directors. Appointments to the Board of Directors are non-voting positions. These appointments may include, but are not limited to the following.
Archivist: The Archivist chairs the Archives and Grants Committee; advises the President, Executive Committee and Board on how well the Society is meeting its preservation objectives; maintains the Society archives in safe permanent storage including past minutes, documents, publications, papers and books as required by United States law, Texas law, and these Bylaws; and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President and the Board.Journal Editor(s): The Journal Editor(s) shall be responsible for publishing and distributing the TxSGS’ quarterly publication(s), under the guidelines of the assigned Director.
DNA Committee Chair: The DNA Committee Chair advises the President, Executive Committee, Board and membership on issues related to DNA technology and programs and what is needed to further the education of TxSGS membership about DNA; is responsible to the President or other Director as assigned; and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President and the Board. The Chair of the DNA committee serves as a non-voting member of the Board.
Parliamentarian: The Parliamentarian may be a Society member and therefore become a non-voting member of the Board of Directors; however, the President may elect to secure the services of a professional parliamentarian for the Annual Business Meeting as the need arises. The fee for such a parliamentarian must have approval of the Executive Committee. The parliamentarian must be present at the Board of Directors meeting held before the Annual Business meeting and should be available to any Officer or Committee Chairperson for consultation prior to the meeting.
Preservation Capture System Chair (PCS): To assist Partner Societies in preservation efforts, TxSGS has developed and refined the Preservation Capture System, a state-of-the-art combination of a professional camera, rigid stand, studio lighting, and powerful software. This system is now available for loan to any TxSGS partner society through an Equipment Loan Grant. Developed to quickly and easily capture images of records, documents, and photos, the PCS is designed for easy assembly and use by the average genealogist. The PCS Chair is responsible to the President or other Director as assigned and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President and the Board. The Chair of the PCS committee serves as a non-voting member of the Board.
Texas Records Preservation and Access Committee Chair (TRPAC): The TRPAC Chair advises the President, Executive Committee, Board and membership on issues related to records preservation and access and how well the Society is meeting its local, state and national records preservation and access objectives; serves as the Texas representative to the National RPAC; is responsible to the President; and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the President and the Board.
Website Manager (Webmaster): The Website Manager shall be responsible for operating the website in accordance with procedures submitted to and approved by the Board of Directors. The Website Manager, if appointed, shall be a non-voting member. The Website Manager operates under the guidelines of the Director of Development.
