Frequently Asked Questions – 2024 TxSGS Conference

A link to the syllabus will be emailed to you the week before the conference begins from the email address registrar@txsgs.org. Watch for this email. If you don’t receive it, check your spam folder. If you still don’t find it, contact the conference registrar at registrar@txsgs.org. You can also download the syllabus when you view the presentations.

A week before TxSGS Live!, a link will be emailed to you from the email address event-noreply@whova.io. Please add this email address to your contacts list so this critical email message won’t be deleted or diverted to spam.

Watch for this email. If you don’t receive it, check your spam folder. If you still don’t find it, contact the conference registrar at registrar@txsgs.org.

No; registration is not transferable. As all the sessions are recorded, you can view them as many times as you’d like before February 2, 2025.

If you wish to watch TxSGS Live! during the broadcast on November 1-2, 2024, register prior to October 30. TxSGS encourages registration before the conference starts because our volunteer registration team may be unable to process your registration before TxSGS Live! starts.

However, you can purchase access at any time up through December 31, 2024, to view the recordings available to you through your registration package. Please note that the early bird discount ends at midnight, Central Time, on September 30, 2024, and the member discount ends at midnight, Central Time, on October 30, 2024. The registration link is on our Registration page.

Yes; the TxSGS All Access package can be purchased through December 31, 2024, at the regular TxSGS All Access rate. A registration link is on the TxSGS website at https://www.txsgs.org/2024-conference/registration/

The TxSGS Family History Conference will use Whova for TxSGS Live!, the Virtual Expo Hall, and access to all recordings through midnight, February 2, 2024.

Presentations are listed on the TxSGS website by speaker. Check the conference menu on our website for updates.

Is closed captioning provided to the TxSGS Live!, On-Demand, or Bonus sessions?

TxSGS is not providing closed captioning. However, you can use a free app such as Live Caption (http://www.livecaptionapp.com/), Auto Subtital (https://www.auto-subtitle.com/), Substital (https://substital.com/), or Screencast O’Matic (https://screencast-o-matic.com/).

Some browsers support closed captioning. For example, you can select closed captioning in Chrome by following these steps:

1. On your computer, open Chrome.
2. At the top right, click the three vertical dots, which symbolize “More,” then select “Settings.”
3. In the settings screen, select “Accessibility” in the left menu.
4. Turn live captions on by clicking on the slider “on/off” button.
5. Select “Caption Preferences” to view options for changing your video caption style.

There are a number of closed captioning apps available. Just google “closed captioning streaming app free” and try one out.

You can create an account at https://txsgs.z2systems.com/np/clients/txsgs/login.jsp. Click on “Create Account” and enter your information. Please leave “Company Name” blank unless you are creating an account for a society, library, or other organization.

Otherwise, you can create an account when you register for the conference.

Just click on the “x” in the upper right corner of the box to dismiss this login prompt. Fill in the boxes on the registration form to create a TxSGS account. Please leave “Company Name” blank.

Under username and password boxes, you’ll see “Forgot your password?” Enter your email address in the box and click “Recover Account.” The TxSGS online membership system will send you an email to the email address associated with your account. This email will include a link and instructions for creating a new user name and password.

If you are using an email address different from the one you had when you created a TxSGS account and don’t remember your password, please contact memberinfo@txsgs.org for assistance with your account.

When you log into your TxSGS account, you’ll see a window like this.

Click “Join Now” and follow the prompts or click on “What would you like to do?”, select “My membership,” and follow the prompts.

Early Bird registration ends at midnight, Central Time, September 30, 2024.

The member discount ends at midnight, Central Time, October 30, 2024.

If you are a current TxSGS member, log into your account after you click on the registration link at https://www.txsgs.org/2023-conference/registration/.

You will automatically receive the membership discount; the early bird or any other applicable discount appears on the summary at the end of the registration process.

Yes, just email registrar@txsgs.org within seven days of registration. Include your name and registration number. Processing your refund may take up to ten (10) days.

Click on the box labeled “What would you like to do?” and select “2024 TxSGS Family History Conference.” Follow the prompts to complete your registration.

Yes, but you’ll need to provide contact information for each person including a unique email address. Each registrant will be emailed a unique access link to TxSGS Live! and the On-Demand sessions.

No; member discounts are for individual or household members of TxSGS, not organizations.

Yes. Please note that deferred payment (labeled “Pay Later”) is for those who wish to mail in a check. If payment isn’t received by TxSGS within 14 days of registration, the registration is subject to cancellation. Please be aware that it can take up to two weeks for mail to reach us; don’t delay in placing your check in the mail. Payment must be received no later than October 30, 2024, regardless of when you registered. If we have not received it by then, your registration is subject to cancellation.

Yes; a fee will be charged commensurate with the increased price of the upgraded package you choose. Contact registrar@txsgs.org for instructions on how to upgrade from the TxSGS Live! Plus package to the TxSGS All Access package.

Yes; however, each person who accesses the conference webinars must be registered separately.

If you wish to watch TxSGS Live!, which includes speaker question and answer time, you should register prior to October 30, 2024.. TxSGS encourages registration before the conference starts. However, you can purchase access at any time up through December 31, 2024. Please note that the early bird discount ends at midnight, Central Time, on September 30, 2024, and the member discount ends at midnight, Central Time, on October 30, 2024.

The deferred payment (labeled “Pay Later”) option is provided for those who prefer to mail a check for payment. If payment isn’t received by TxSGS within 14 days of registration, the registration is subject to cancellation.

Please be aware that it can take up to two weeks for mail to reach us; don’t delay in placing your check in the mail. You will not receive access to TxSGS Live!, On-Demand lectures, or Bonus lectures until your registration fee has been received.

You may choose credit card, or Paypal. Credit cards accepted are American Express, Discover, Master Card, and Visa. If you wish to pay your registration fee by mailing a check, select “Pay Later” and place your check in the mail within 24 hours. If payment isn’t received by TxSGS within 14 days of registration, the registration is subject to cancellation. You will not receive access to TxSGS Live!, On-Demand lectures, or Bonus lectures until your registration fee has been received.

No; member discounts are for individual or household members of TxSGS, not organizations. You can support your society, however, by encouraging it to participate in the TxSGS TIPS program for the 2024 TxSGS Family History Conference. Register using the special TIPS code and your society receives a cash donation for each registrant from your group. Learn more about TxSGS TIPS.

Yes! You can log in to the TxSGS society account and access conference registration from the drop-down menu labeled “What would you like to do?” Select the number of persons you wish to register, then enter their names and email addresses.

Please note that if your society is registering persons before the early bird deadline of September 30, your society will only receive one early bird discount per registration, not per person. To receive an early bird discount for each person your society is registering, register them one at a time. Also, Partner Societies do not receive a member discount to the conference, even if the persons your society is registering are members of TxSGS.

Yes! Downloadable media suitable for printing or emailing are available on our website at Media Resources | Texas State Genealogical Society (txsgs.org).

Yes! Your library can log in to their TxSGS library account and access conference registration from the drop-down menu labeled “What would you like to do?” Select the number of persons you wish to register, then enter their names and email addresses.

Please note that if your library is registering persons before the early bird deadline of September 30, your library will only receive one early bird discount per registration, not per person. To receive an early bird discount for each person your library is registering, register them one at a time. Also, libraries do not receive a member discount to the conference, even if the persons your library is registering are members of TxSGS.

Yes! Downloadable media suitable for printing or emailing are available on our website at Media Resources | Texas State Genealogical Society (txsgs.org).

These are recorded presentations that are available at no extra charge for all registration packages. These may include topics such as software demonstrations, how-tos, access to specific records, partner society management, and more. We will post a listing online as soon as the list is finalized.

TxSGS Live!, On-Demand, and Bonus sessions are available for viewing through February 2, 2025, unless specified. Some presentation access may be limited at the speaker’s request. Those are noted in the syllabus and on the website.

The TxSGS Family History Conference will be hosted on the Whova platform for TxSGS Live! and the Virtual Expo Hall. Recordings for TxSGS Live! and TxSGS All Access packages will be accessible using the Whova platform as well. Recording access will be available through midnight, February 2, 2025.

No; due to copyright limitations you are not authorized to capture the recorded presentations in any form without written permission of both the speaker and TxSGS.

Go to https://www.txsgs.org/2023-conference/registration/ and click “Register Now.” After October 30, 2024, only the TxSGS All Access package is available at the regular rate; no member discount is provided.

Access recorded sessions in your registration package through your Whova account. Just log onto the Whova platform.
