A great research destination in the heart of Boerne, the Family History Place, is only 20 miles away from the conference hotel, the Omni San Antonio at the Colonnade. Maintained by the Genealogical Society of Kendall County, this genealogy library is housed in a historic 1919 Sears Catalog home. For Hill Country researchers, the Family History Place has records that can’t be found anywhere else. The Family History Place also houses a research room for the Boerne Family History Center, allowing library patrons access to LDS research resources as well.
The Family History Place holds a collection of approximately 3800 books, 69 journal titles, microfilm and manuscripts, maps, and some records salvaged from the county courthouse weeding process. Teacher reports to the county school district and poll tax records are among these county records. The “First Families Collection” of Kendall County is a unique set of records compiled by family members when they applied for certification to GSKC’s First Families. These books include documents, biographies, photos, and stories of the family.
Located at 114 E. Blanco Street in Boerne, the library is free to all visitors. Hours are Monday, 1 to 4 p.m.; Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
