The program includes 1) “Painted Catholic Churches of Fayette County” by Dianna Stavinoha Zimmerman, docent and tour guide for the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce. These beautiful churches are reminiscent of the beautiful, old, ornate Catholic churches in the “old country” 2) “Early Texas Brethren Churches” by Jimmy Pokorny, contributor to The Brethren Journal. The simplicity of the early Brethren Churches reflects the teachings of the denomination’s founder, Jan Hus. 3) “Czech Republic Cemeteries” by Jana Marcella Vaculik-Riley, 1st generation Czech American and Co-Director of Westfest Parade of Kroje. The Czech burial procedures and how to find gravesites and death certificates will be discussed. 4) “Old Czech Ceramics and Glass” by Jean Blaha Davis, a collector of unique Czech ceramic and glass. Jean will display a portion of her huge collection and will explain the significance of each piece and how it was acquired. See the Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS) website (https://txczgs.org/) for registration (includes a catered lunch) forms and information or contact Carolyn Holub 214-577-0029, cholub1088@gmail.com.

There will be a sales table with authentic Czech items for your early Christmas shopping convenience, including a 2019 Christmas ornament collection, which has a new line of ornaments made in the Czech Republic that are associated with a legend, symbol or a tradition. These have been very popular items for the last five years. Also books published by the TCGS are available for purchase, including the newest publication, Pamatnik Czechoslovaku, a memorial book honoring the Czechs of Texas for the work they carried out from 1914-1920 to benefit the liberation of the Czech Lands in World War I.
