The following genealogical events are currently scheduled. This calendar includes Partner Societies that are offering one-day or multiple-day workshops and seminars, as well as national and international conferences. It does not include monthly meetings.

Exploring Resources for Discovering Our Roots

Speakers

Weldon Mersiovsky – “Exploring Your Czech Roots Through the Wendish Records”
Retired financial advisor and the current officer of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society and the founder of the Wendish Research Exchange. He is an expert in Wendish research and gladly assists others in their searches about Texas Wends and German Sorbs. He coordinates research and translates documents from German and Wendish into English for the Wendish Research Exchange. Weldon Mersiovsky could be summed up in one Wendish word, radyserb, which means “glad to be a Wend.”

Susan Chandler – “Exploring Your Roots Using Fraternal Organizations”
Museum Administrator, Czech Heritage Museum and Genealogy Center, Temple, Texas. Susan Chandler will share how to use the fraternal societies in the search of ancestors histories.

Jake Mangum – “Portal of Texas History”
Project Development Librarian for the University of North Texas Libraries’ Portal of Texas History (www.texashistory.unt.edu), is working as a liaison between cultural heritage institutions in the creation and digitization of collections and the Portal to Texas History. Jake Mangum will be explaining how to use and navigate the   Portal of Texas for family research and history and how to research the portal’s collection of Czechs Newspapers.

Darwin L. Machu – “Songs of Our Ancestors Come Alive on CD”
Czech Republic Liaison for the Texas Czech Genealogical Society will talk about our Czech history through songs, especially the Taylor Czech Chorus 50th anniversary CD, which will be available at the sales table. All are invited to wear their respective Kroj and if so inclined provide a 10 minute summary of its history.
