The following genealogical events are currently scheduled. This calendar includes Partner Societies that are offering one-day or multiple-day workshops and seminars, as well as national and international conferences. It does not include monthly meetings.

Spotlight on North Texas

Join the University of North Texas Libraries and Texas Archive of the Moving Image for the opportunity to turn your family history into community history!
In our National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH)-funded project, the Spotlight on North Texas, we will be digitizing materials related to Denton County’s motion picture history including your home movies, local and regional films, photographs, advertisements, etc. A selection of this content will be made available on the Portal to Texas History and Texas Archive of the Moving Image’s online archive for future generations to appreciate and study.
To qualify for free digitization, films and videotapes must:
- Be one of the following formats: Film (Super 8, 8mm, and 16mm films) or Video (VHS, VHS-C, SVHS, Beta SP, ¾” U-matic, Hi-8,
8mm, MiniDV) - Be filmed in Texas, filmed by a Texan, or featured Texas or Texans.
- Be in the public domain OR submitted by the copyright holder, who grants permissions for the items to be shared by TAMI and UNT.
- Total no more than 20 reels of film and no more than 5 videotapes per household.
To qualify for free digitization, documents must:
- Document the motion picture history of Denton County.
- Total no more than 25 items per household.
- Be in the public domain OR submitted by the copyright holder, who grants permissions for the items to be shared by TAMI and UNT.
On the day of the event, UNT Digital Projects staff will digitize your documents, return the originals, and provide a free digital copy on a flash-drive. The Texas Archive of the Moving Image (TAMI) and UNT will inventory your films and videotapes, provide minor cleaning and repairs if necessary, and digitize the materials off-site. Originals will be returned, along with the digitized files, either transferred to an external hard drive that you provide or as DVDs.
