Congratulations to Keely Shaw, a student at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, who was awarded the 2018 TxSGS $1,000 scholarship at the TxSGS 2018 Family History Conference in San Antonio in November. The award was presented to Keely by Bill Buckner, TxSGS Awards Chairman, and Randy Whited, TxSGS President.
Keely is an honors student majoring in History with a minor in Communications. A member of the Honors Program, Keely was inducted into the Alpha Chi Society in November. Employed by the War Stories Project, she will soon transition to working at the West Texas Collection, regional archives and repository for West Texas. Keely is experienced in transcription, editing, digitizing historical materials, and collection of metadata, as well as website management.
The scholarship applicant must submit a 500-word essay on “The Importance of Family History.” See Keely’s essay in the December 2018 issue of Stirpes, The Journal of the Texas State Genealogical Society, which will be published later this month.
