CRENSHAW, CORNELIUS (ca 1783–1859). Cornelius Crenshaw was born in South Carolina (probably Union County) about 1793. He and his future wife, Mildred Parham, migrated to Georgia, marrying in Elbert County, GA in 1808. Some of the Crenshaw’s children were born in Georgia, but their son, Cornelius, claimed a Tennessee birth. Subsequent children, including Isaac Henly, were born in Marion County, Alabama. From there, in 1835 the Crenshaw family moved to what is now Sabine County. Cornelius received a 1^st class headright as a result of their early arrival in the republic, selecting the future county of Caldwell for the acreage. Cornelius remained in the Sabine area until about 1853 when he and his wife moved west to their land grant in Caldwell County where Cornelius died on 1859. The location of his burial is not known. The two Crenshaws were early frontier settlers of the Republic of Texas.

CRENSHAW, MILDRED "MILLIE/MALINDA/PARMELIA" PARHAM (ca 1783–ca 1855). Mildred Parham was born in North Carolina (probably Granville) about 1783. She emigrated to Elbert County, GA where she married Cornelius Crenshaw in 1808. The Crenshaw family was one of the many who frequently moved west as more areas of the United States opened to settlement in search of a better life. Mildred and her family lived in Tennessee, then Marion County, Alabama, before settling in the current Sabine County Texas in 1835. Mildred no doubt worked hard raising a large family in new areas of the frontier. She likely moved with her husband Cornelius to Caldwell County, Texas in about 1853, just a couple of years before her death. The two Crenshaws were early frontier settlers of the Republic of Texas.
