William Woodley

WOODLEY, WILLIAM (1797-1847). William Woodley was born in Georgia in April 1797. It is reported that he was a widower by the time he married Telitha McMichael in Jasper County, GA on October 8, 1816. William and Telitha were the parents of at least 12 children born over a span of 26 years. By 1819, the Woodleys had moved to Perry County, Alabama, where several of their children were born. In 1843 the Woodley family moved to Harrison County in the Republic of Texas. William purchased a tract of land on the Harrison-Panola County line in January 1844. William died in Harrison County on August 18, 1847 and was buried in the Woodley family cemetery near Elysian Fields in Harrison County.

WOODLEY, TELITHA McMICHAEL (1800-1852). Telitha McMichael Woodley was born in Greene County, Georgia, in May 1800 to William and Elizabeth McMichael. At some point, her family moved to Jasper County, Georgia, where she married widower William Woodley on October 8, 1816. She and William were parents of at least 12 children born over a span of 26 years. The family moved to Perry County, Alabama, by 1819 where several of their children were born. In 1843 the Woodley family moved to Harrison County in the Republic of Texas. Her husband, William, purchased a tract of land on the Harrison-Panola County line in January 1844. After William died in 1847, there was a protracted probate battle between the younger and older Woodley children, partially caused by the lack of a valid will for William. Telitha spent the remainder of her life dealing with the aftermath of that disagreement. Telitha died in Harrison County on September 23, 1852 and was buried alongside her husband in the Woodley family cemetery near Elysian Fields in Harrison County.
