Smith - James Smith - Brief Bio



James Smith was born in South Carolina. He volunteered in The War of 1812 and fought in the Creek Indian Wars and the Battle of New Orleans. He moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee, and was a colonel in Tennessee militia and a captain of cavalry of Nacogdoches Mounted Volunteers. He fought at the Battle Of Neches and the Suppressed Regulator-Moderator War in Shelby County.

He was a friend of Sam Houston. Smith County is named in his honor. James is buried in a brick vault in Smith Park in Henderson, texas. He was one of the founders of Henderson.
