Coburn-Barrett - Hansel Benton Coburn and Mariam Hannah Barrett - Brief bio
Hansel Benton Coburn married Mariam Hannah Barrett on 9 July 1839 in Fayette County, Tennessee. They followed Mariam's brother, John Whitten Barrett, to Texas. He [Hansel?] shows up on an immigration index in Houston in 1840, and then as County Commissioner in Houston County in 1847. In 1860, Hansel is living in Beat 5, Houston County, Texas, with his wife Mariam, daughters Harriett, Jane, and Margaret, and his son Willie. In 1870 he is in Beat 3, Bell County, Texas, with Mariam, Margaret "Maggie", and Willie. In 1863, he enlisted as a private in Company B, of the 11th Brigade, at Crockett, in Houston County. There is a small post in the Galveston Daily News on 4 Nov 1874, which states, "Mr. H. Coburn died suddenly at his residence 3 miles north of Belton, on Saturday night ... ."
