Unknown, Agnes and John C. Burke - Brief bio

Agnes came to Texas with her husband, John C. Burke. Their sixth child, Martin Burke, was born there in 1838. They lived near Schulenberg on part of the K. Crier league. Her husband's petition for land states he emigrated in 1820 and the family consisted of seven members.

John C. Burke died in about 1847 after obtaining a patented title to his Headright of 26 leagues in Gillespie County; this land was described in Agnes's 1866 probate record as being "wild land near Fredricksburg." The 1848 Fayette County, Texas, Tax List is in Agnes's name instead of John C. Burke. Agnes is listed on the 1860 Fayette County, Texas, census population schedule and agricultural schedule.

Agnes's daughters married members of pioneer families of Fayette County. Mary, the eldest, married Christopher Fitzgerald; Ann and Irana married Oscar F. and Andrew J. Sargeant, sons of Jasper Sargent; Elizabeth married Nathaniel Mitchell; and Sarah, the youngest, married John Cleghorn. The eldest son, James, died about 1856, leaving his wife, Amelia/Permelia Sophia White, and five daughters. Martin V. Burke, who died in 1868, married Edna Magness. The other two sons, John C. and George W., married Priscilla Boatright and Eliza A. Boatright.

1850 and 1860 Fayette County, Texas, census enumerations show Agnes's son, Martin Burke, was born in Texas in 1838; her daughter, Irena, was born in Texas in 1840, and son George W. Burke, was born in Texas in 1843.
