Hamilton-Bethea - Robert Hamilton and Elizabeth Bethea - Brief bio



Thomas Hamilton and Jane McCracken were Scots/Irish immigrants settling into Guilford, North Carolina, before 1750. He served in the Revolutionary War. His three sons Thomas Jr, James, and Robert also served in the Continental army. 

James Hamilton married Jane Gwin whose father and brother both served in the Revolutionary War. The Hamilton and Latimer families made the trek to Red River County, Texas, from Tennessee in 1833. Robert Hamilton's sister was Jane Hamilton who married James Latimer. Robert S. Hamilton (who married Elizabeth Bethea) was the uncle of Judge Albert Hamilton Latimer, Red River Delegate, and Henry Russel Latimer who served in the Senate for six years. Henry's son married the daughter of Charles DeMorse, who founded The Northern Standard. Robert Hamilton was also the uncle of James Wellington Latimer, who founded the First Newspaper in Dallas.
