Antonio Jose Yznaga y Castillo

Antonio Jose Yznaga was the son of Jose Aniceto Iznaga y Borrell and Maria Dolores Castillo y Lopez from Trinidad, Cuba. The Iznaga Family owned sugar plantations in Cuba, including the Manaca Iznaga Plantation in Trinidad, Cuba. On 10 November 1837, one of their sons, Antonio Jose Yznaga arrived in New York City to join his father who had been living in the United States since 1 May 1822. On 3 April 1843, Antonio Jose Yznaga became a naturalized citizen. In 1846, he left New York and arrived in Texas, eventually settling in Brownsville. On 31 July 1861, he married Maria Juana Gonzalez y Hinojosa. Known as one of the early settlers of Brownsville, Antonio Yznaga was a successful businessman, cattle rancher, and respected member of the early Brownsville, Texas, community.
