Thomas Jefferson Walling (TJW), son of John Walling Sr. and Anna Chisum, was born in White County, Tennessee, 11 February 1811. He moved to Nacogdoches and along with his brothers, Jesse and John, pledged allegiance to Texas. His brother, Jesse, served with General Sam Houston at the Battle of San Jacinto. Houston gave his rifle to Jesse, it is on display at the San Jacinto Monument museum. TJW married his second wife, Elenor Stone Hardy, 4 September 1854 in Rusk County, Texas. They had seven children in addition to the nine children from his first marriage to Nancy Ann Price.
In 1841 TJW and first wife, Nancy Ann Price, erected a cabin that can be seen at the Depot Museum in Henderson, Texas.
