Seargeant-Musick - Jasper Seargeant and Jane Maria Musick - Brief bio



Jasper A. Seargeant was born around 1795, probably in Virginia. He fought in the War of 1812 in Col. William Trueheart's, 1st Regiment, Virginia Militia. He married Eliza Parrish in Louisa County, Virginia in 1812, but she died sometime before 1818.
 
From there he moved to Alabama where he married Jane Maria Musick, had three children in Alabama, immigrated to Texas, arriving in January of 1831. Jasper, his wife Jane Maria, a son, and two daughters are listed in Stephen F. Austin's Register of Families, Volume 1, page 95, family #560. On 20 May 1831 he received Land Patent #1338 for land in Fayette County.
 
Jasper was very active in his community in Fayette as well as in Colorado Counties Texas. He not only helped build roads but he used his house as a polling place. In 1833 his son, John George, was born and in 1838 his son, Andrew Harrison, was born.
 
Jasper A. Seargeant was murdered by Mason B. Foley on 11 July 1839. The court records show he was shot point blank to the right side of his head and was instantly killed. Mason Foley was subsequently found not guilty by the jury.

Jasper Seargeant  descendants are members of Sons of the Republic of Texas.
