Thomas Decrow came to Texas 7 March, 1831. Three of his brothers also came. Daniel was a member of Stephen F. Austin's Old 300. Howard and Elijah Decrow joined them. They all received land grants in Austin's Colony. Thomas and Elijah lived on Elijah's land grant on the tip of Matagorda Peninsula which became known as Decrow's or Decros Point.   

Thomas's land grant was in Gonzales County, Certificate 377. Thomas traveled to Maine to marry and returned with his bride, Lucretia Morton, of Bristol, Maine, in 1835. Thomas built a wharf and warehouse on the point. He hired a ship's carpenter who built a second house for the family which was supposed to be storm proof. The house was anchored into the land on the point. When the storm of 1875 arrived, many friends and family sheltered there. The house and all of it's occupants washed into the Pass during the storm. Three children who were not in the house, Cordelia Decrow Peaslee, Olivia Decrow, and Thomas Decrow, left Matagorda County and relocated to Georgetown, Williamson County.
